    Interesting, but not new to me

    I bought this book as a gift to a tree hobbyist after reading a rave review, but I myself found little new in it as I keep current on science news and have read about most of the phenomena described. I was quite disappointed to find that most of the information was about European trees, which I should have expected, given the author is German, but I mistakenly assumed there would be more about American trees. I had no reason to expect that however. I believe the book could be extremely interesting to the non-biologist (I am a biologist) who has not observed trees directly as I have for I am a forest owner. I disagree intensely with current forest management policies designed for profit by lumbermen, and was pleased to see the book reinforces my opinions. Forests are getting ...
